Inception and Growth

Department of Commerce, along with the inception of the college, commenced in the year 1993 with one section of B. Com Regular course consisting of 43 students. In a span of twenty-eight years, the department has expanded into seven sections comprising; two sections of B. Com, two sections of B. Com Computer Application, two sections of B. Com Honours and one section of B. Com Honours Business Analytics with a strength of around 1300 students and 26 faculty members. The department also offers PG course (M.Com) and is one of the largest departments in the college. The department aspires to equip the students with the required skills when they graduate or post-graduate and keeps pace with the industry requirements by introducing new courses. The Department offers value added courses to all streams in all years. First year students are enhanced with skills based in accounting like Tally Essentials. Second year students are provided with moral, human and ethical values for a holistic development through Art of Self Management, Art of Living, and Personality Development courses. Final year students are empowered with employability courses like Financial Modelling, Digital Marketing, Digital Transformation, Microsoft Office Specialist courses. Honours Business Analytics students are also provided with internships in Analytical tools. The members of the department are actively involved in research; five members are doctorates, fourteen members are pursuing PhD, nine members have completed M.Phil. and sixteen members are NET/SET qualified. Four members have completed Minor Research Projects funded by UGC. Students are motivated to write research articles and are encouraged to participate in National and International conferences. Performance of the students are outstanding in the fields of education, sports and extra-curricular activities. Majority of the students are successful in their careers and have got admission in eminent Universities for higher education. Close to 45% of the students are placed through campus and those who have entrepreneurial cues have become successful entrepreneurs.

Resource Person
Mrs. Kamala Devi, Head, Department of Commerce has been the resource person for State Level Five Day Faculty Development Program from 29/01/24 to 02/01/2024, organised by Department of Commerce, Keshav memorial Institute of Commerce & Sciences, Hyderabad. She has been the speaker for the topic “Student Centered Teaching Methods & Strategies” on Day1 ie 29/01/2024 . Participants from various colleges gained deeper insights into the topic.

Mrs. R. Sreemathi completed Ph.D from KL University from the Department of Management in Finance on the thesis titled - An Analysis of Financial Performance of Family, Non- Family & PSU run businesses: An evidence from NSE India
Best Presenter Award
Ms Ankita nagra and Mrs Jyoti Mehra received Best Presenter Award at IIMC college Hyderabad on December 1st,2023. They were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- for the paper titled, "Policy Roadmap to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2030: G20 Sustainable Climate Action Commitment"

Value-Added Course for BCom HBA – Sem VI

Students of BCom Hons Business Analytics Sem VI have been offered a value added course on Mastering Data science and Machine learning using Python from 15-Dec-2023 to 25-Feb-2024. Mr. Palash Pal, Mr. Athar and Mr. Amar V were the resource persons for the program. The course helped total of 55 students gain knowledge about python and its applications and implement logistic and linear regression using python. The students worked on capstone projects and presented at the end of the course.

Research Methodology

Mr. Satish Kumar (Statistician) provided valuable insights into using SPSS for data analysis and interpretation for B.Com IIIA1 and IIIA2. This session had a focus on introducing research methodology, primary and secondary data, framing questionnaire for primary data collection for the objectives of the study, framing of hypothesis, types of errors, statistical tools, exporting data to SPSS, understanding of dependent and independent variables, and sample size calculation etc., was explained in a lucid manner. 120 students benefitted from the workshop Day 2 was conducted on 15/02/2024 by Dr. Ravindranath K. Murthy’s session for BCom IIIA2 and by Mr. Satish Kumar for BCom IIIA1. Research Methodology

Department of Commerce organised a five-day workshop on “Research Methodology” through SPSS software for M.com students.The workshop was conducted on 9th February 2024 and 16th February 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in lab N21B for 17 students.This workshop enabled students to complete their respective project work. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. D.Satish, who is a Data scientist and has a strong passion for data analytics and research in SPSS software. The sessions were very informative and elaborate which helped the students to complete their research project.

Research Methodology

Department of Commerce organised a five-day workshop on “Research Methodology” through SPSS software for B.com (Hons.) For B Com 3H1 & 3H2 students the workshop was conducted on 9th February 2024 and 16th February 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in lab N21B and N21C. This workshop enabled students to complete their respective project work. The resource person for the workshop was Mr.D.Satish, who is a Data scientist and has a strong passion for data analytics and research in SPSS software. A total of 115 students attended the sessions and had hands on experience with live data sets.

Research Methodology

Research Methodology workshop ( first round) was conducted on 6th February at N21 A,B,C from 10:00AM to 4:30PM on 06th February 2024 for students of III-B III-C. Total no. of 110 students participated.The workshop provided delightful information on preparation of questionnaire and Statistical tools used for analysis in SPSS. Research workshop provided meaningful insight to the students & they were benefited. Research Methodology workshop (second round) was conducted on 12th February at N3 from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM for students of III-C and III-B on 16th February 2024 Total no. of 100 students participated. The workshop provided delightful information on descriptive statistics like measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion,Skewness,Kurtosis,Normality of data and inferential statistics like parametric and Non- parametric methods, Regression analysis. Tools like T-test include one- sample T-test, Independent sample T-test and paired sample T-test,Chisquare test,practical problems applying various tools provided meaningful insight to the students and they were benefited.

Research Methodology

The Department of Commerce conducted a research methodology workshop on data analysis by Dr. Satish, an expert statistician for B. Com HBA, on 1st and 14th February 2024. The workshop provided important insights to the students guiding them for the major projects to be under took by them. The main objective of this was to impart knowledge about the SPSS software and how to use them effectively in the projects. Overall, it was an informative and insightful workshop for the final year students as it helped them provide a direction to continue with their major projects. Guest Lecture on Exploratory Data Analysis using R

The Department of Commerce has organized a guest lecture on 3rd February 2024 (01:00pm - 03 pm) for second year students of B.Com Honours ( Business Analytics) on Exploratory Data Analysis using R. The resource person for the session was Mr. Kantam Srikanth, a seasoned professional working in the field of IT for over 11 years. Mr. Kantam Srikanth, an esteemed expert in the field, began the session The session covered a diverse range of topics, including introduction to R programming, assigning operator, how to import packages, statistical analysis, and data visualization through hands-on approach.A total of 50 students participated in the session and gained insights.

Primicerius

Primicerius 2024, the Annual Management fest conducted by BCom Honours students was held on 5th and 6th of January 2024, featured the theme "Susteinere: Ecogenesis”, Economic Excellence Driven by Eco Wisdom. The 12th edition of Primicerius was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. Patrick Anthony, PRO- Department of Commerce, Osmania University, Guest of Honor was Mr. Ram Mohan, the Chairman of Patashala, Principal Dr GSVRK Choudhary and the Vice Chairman AIR Cmdr J L N Sharstry VSM Garu. The Event was a grand success with more than 350 participants from 42 colleges, the event successfully combined sustainability and managerial expertise. The fest emphasized eco-friendly economic practices, making it a standout success in promoting environmental consciousness.

Com Honors, HBA (Business Analytics) and BBA on 21st and 22nd of December, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The speaker for the guest lecture was Mr. Rajesh Pershad, who has immense knowledge and experience in the said field. A total number of 93 students attended the guest lecture and gained knowledge on the topic.

Seminar

Department of commerce has facilitated a seminar on the YES+ (Youth Empowerment Seminar) to the students of Bhava’s Vivekananda college at Manas Ganga Ashram and Classic Gardens, Shamshabadon 1st December 2023. The delegation representing the Vice Chairman Air Commodore (Retd) JLN Sastry, VSM and Principal Dr. G.S.V.R.K. Choudary, Bhavan's faculty of the Department of Commerce Mrs. L V KamalaDevi, Mrs. Vinaya Chaturvedi, Ms. Ankita Nagra, Mrs. Sreedevi, and Mrs. Sreemati visited Manas Ganga Ashram to pay respect and seek blessings from Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar. It was a full day seminar from 1pm to 6:45 pm where students were taught about tools to eliminate stress, handle negative emotions, increase mental focus, heighten awareness and develop strong social and leadership skills. These tools are a set of powerful breathing techniques which decrease stress, detoxify the body, and increase focus and clarity of mind. To get the most out of life, we need to increase energy, conserve the energy we have, and manage our time well. YES+ teaches us how to be productive and dynamic while staying cool and centred.
